The eclipse, live

On eclipse day this site tracks the eclipse in real time, town by town: current phase, percentage of Sun covered, seconds of totality and the glasses-on / glasses-off warning.

Totality will cross Spain between 20:27 and 20:33 local time (CEST). Our own computations (skyfield, JPL DE440s ephemerides) verified against the IGN (eclipses.ign.es).

What happens here on the day

How the live tracker works on 12 August

  • Your town, in real time

    Type your municipality (all 8,217 are searchable) or use your location, and the page follows the eclipse with the exact times computed for that town.

  • The current phase, minute by minute

    Before first contact, the growing partial phase with the covered percentage climbing, TOTALITY with a live seconds counter, the waning phase and the end — with a progress bar.

  • The glasses warning

    It tells you when the glasses must be on (always, with one exception) and — only inside the path of totality — when you can take them off and how many seconds remain before putting them back on.

  • Made to share

    Buttons to send your town’s current phase via WhatsApp or X, with a direct link so whoever opens it sees their own eclipse live.

The live tracker interface runs on the Spanish page /en-directo/ (Spanish). The labels are Spanish but it is all numbers, a progress bar and two buttons — and the times are identical to the ones on your town’s English page.

Safety

Glasses on — with one single exception

During every partial phase, look at the Sun only through certified eclipse glasses (EN ISO 12312-2 with a CE mark). Only inside the path of totality, and only while the Sun is completely covered, can you look with the naked eye — the moment the first ray returns, glasses back on.
